Service – Difference between ISR and GR

What’s the difference between an ISR and GR?

ISR

  • Means Information Service Representative
  • Is a representative for your group on a local level (Southeast Wisconsin)
  • Attends Intergroup meeting every other month and reports to your group about them
  • Votes on matters brought before the Intergroup as a trusted servant of your group
  • May also be the Alternate Group Representative
  • May also be attending Alcoholics Anonymous

GR

  • Means Group Representative
  • Is a representative for your group on a state level (Area 61/WIUPMI)
  • Attends Area 61 Assembly meetings in Wisconsin Rapids in the spring and fall (your group may pay all or part of the expenses) and reports to your group about the meetings
  • Votes on matters brought before the Assembly as a trusted servant of your group
  • Makes Al-Anon related announcements to your group
  • Receives the In the Loop (electronic newsletter for groups from WSO) and shares pertinent information with the group
  • Attends District meetings when your DR (District Representative) calls them
  • Should be a knowledgeable Al-Anon, who is able to suggest applications of the Traditions in group meetings and group consciences
  • Encourages your group to use the Forum magazine
  • Shares suitable information from the District, Assembly, Area Delegate, World Service Conference (WSC) and World Service Office (WSO) with the group
  • May also be an Alternate ISR
  • May not be a dual member, i.e., also attending Alcoholics Anonymous
  • For more information see Al-Anon guideline G-11 available on the
members resources page of the Al-Anon World Service Office website

What’s the difference if your group doesn’t have and ISR or GR?
Your group lacks contact with the whole of Al-Anon. It has no input in the running of the Service Center/Literature Distribution Center, Area 61 business and outreach to the community.
