Postion requirements for a web team volunteer coordinator
The Al-Anon of Southeastern Wisconsin website was created with WordPress. The team of volunteer web coordinators use their personal computers to make updates. WordPress is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux systems.
Entering of events, posting of news and maintaining the Local Meetings Status Table of Al-Anon meetings available in southeast Wisconsin are made by web coordinators, as needed. Documentation is provided with step-by-step instructions on how to post information.
The work commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per month. Depending on the number of team members, the rotation is usually for 1 week per month. The week runs Sunday thru Saturday. Any emails and event submissions coming in during that week are the scheduled team member’s responsibility. The team member handles the postings to the website and responds, as needed to email requests. If a team member has a conflict with their scheduled week (due to vacation, personal or work commitment, etc.) they may trade their week with another web team member.
Additionally, web coordinators participate in a monthly, 1-hour online meeting with the whole team about ongoing needs and issues for the website’s maintenance.
Please Note: A year or more of Al-Anon experience is recommended for this service position.
Proficiencies
WordPress. This is a commonly used web-based software that helps you create, manage and modify content on a website without needing to interact directly with the code. It is an easy platform to get started with.
Notepad ++ (free) or Notepad (free). They are similar. We use it to create plain text that may occasionally include some HTML code to post. Complete instructions and sample postings are provided.
Word. Either Microsoft Office or WPS Office is helpful for editing content. WPS Office has a free version.
PDF. Documents such as Open Meeting Flyers are printed to a PDF file, a format that all users can read. It simply requires printing to a PDF file rather than to a printer. A PDF print option may be on the computer or free downloads are available.
